elcome to the first edition of the 2004-2005 ACTA DIURNA, chronicle of AW news and events! This edition continues the tradition begun by Julilla Sempronius (AncientSites' first demigoddess), who published a one-page "Saturnalia" edition of ACTA DIURNA in December, 1997. Julilla was later joined by other demis, who edited the ACTA on an occasional basis until the end of A.S. in March, 2002. At AncientWords, Maximius Flavius picked up the torch in 2002 and built up the ACTA into a regular monthly "event" for all AW cives. Julilla returned to the editorial helm early this year and the last edition was published in June, before the “summer break.”
For this, the (sortof) sixth year of publication, we have reorganized how the paper is brought to you. The ACTA will appear monthly on the kalends (first) of the month. There are three Editors and eight "worlds" editors, each of the latter bringing you news and notes from "their" world - so let me introduce the new ACTA company, and award to them - courtesy of Sankira Qin - their official AW "Press Passes" for the coming year!

Meet the Staff
Heraklia Aelius (EDITOR) is a founding member, first of AncientSites (1997) and AncientWorlds (2002). After years of throwing very large parties, she was raised to demigoddess status in October, 2002, and has continued throwing them ever since.
Everyone knows
Laurels Curius (EDITOR) who has been with AS, and now AW, since before the Flood. She has brought her own superb graphics talents as head weaver of
Arachne's Web, where she inspires all of us who struggle with HTML. Laurels was chosen as part of the team that built
The Orient and, along with Sankira Qin and Ningyo Minamoto, became an Orient founding scribe, as Lalita Ashoka. This reformatting of the ACTA DIURNA is entirely Laurels' hard work and talent, and worth a heartfelt "kudoes!"
Anticus Cornelius (EDITOR) is also a Founding Member of AncientSites and the first Consul of the first group at AS, The Rostra. A self-taught numismatist, Anticus built Lex Antica, one of the first Web sites dealing with ancient law. After five work-related years in Bahrain, Anticus returned to the U.S. this spring: now he can work at AW during (more or less) normal business hours. Welcome back to the suave and studly Anticus!
As Worlds Editors, let me introduce those who will be, for the next year, bringing you news and notes from our eight online worlds.
GERMANIA EDITOR: Anarene Burgundian Did you know that Anarene is the mother of IV busy children, loves all aspects of ancient history, and was a science teacher in a past life? And still finds time to work with AW?
CELTIA EDITOR: Bronwynn Cumhaill Did you know Bronwyn goes back to the founding of “Tara” at AS, is a cross-stich expert and dog-lover, and has attended both the New Orleans convention, where she proved she can discuss Celtia at 3 AM after five Hurricanes?
ROME EDITOR: Tanaquil Sergius Did you know Tanaquil, who is Dutch, is an IRL teacher of Latin and ancient Greek and has studied archeology – she founded BOTH of AW’s language schools, Latin first, and now – Greek, as in Sophocles!?
HELLAS EDITOR: Louisa Agis Did you know that this AS/AW member since 1998 (and two years plus, Scribe in Hellas, soon to retire!) is a competitive ballroom dancer, as well as a paralegal by day and an historical expert by night?
THE AMERICAS EDITOR (beginning with our next edition): Mangas Cochise Did you know that Mangas, all images of Mexico aside, is a New Englander, a bibliophile, and a gourmet restaurant hound?
EGYPT EDITOR: Hapshepsut Nebet Did you know that Hapshepsut (scribe in Egypt this past year) is not only a graphics expert, but a helluva party animal, our resident Scribal Aussie, and a visual arts teacher?
ORIENT EDITOR: Sankira Qin Did you know that Sank may be a visual whiz-bang with graphics, but IRL he tries to find those bugs in your PC BEFORE you get them?
MESO EDITOR: Caileadair Etana Did you know that Cail has an active teenage family, three cats, and was born in Puerto Rico but transferred her interest in the U.S. to ancient history?
All these world editors will work with reporters within their own cities. If you are interested in helping with future editions of the ACTA - like ghostbusters, you know who to call.
I hope that, with this edition of the ACTA, we can continue to offer you all, in the AW tradition, "all the [ancient] news that's fit to print." Thank you!
~Heraklia
