Beltaine '08 Treasure Hunt: GREEN WHEAT EARS
In Brittany, men wore the green ears of wheat as festive decorations for summer rites.
The sowing, growth, and harvesting of grain, specifically of wheat, have represented birth and death as well as death and rebirth. Green wheat ears symbolize the promise of the upcoming summer's crop growth, fertility, and generally regeneration. Newlyweds were showered with grain to wish them a fruitful union.
